Louis Vuitton’s Timberland Boot: Worth $2,850?
Share
Since the first sneak peek of the Louis Vuitton x Timberland Six-Inch Boot hit Pharrell’s @skateboard finsta on Jan. 12 (and stole the show at the western-themed Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2024 runway just a week later), fans have been buzzing with anticipation. Well, the wait is over!
You can now pre-order these exclusive boots through LV’s web store, with pairs landing in LV stores worldwide on Aug. 8. But brace yourself—the particular Six-Inch boots we’re eyeing will set you back a whopping $2,850, a jaw-dropping $2,652 more than your average Timbs.
Pharrell has spoiled us with options: alongside the $2,850 version, there’s a black colorway at the same price, beige and black pairs with a sleek nubuck upper and monogrammed ankle collar for $2,450, and beige and black Ranger Boots resembling Timberland’s 40 Below boot for $2,990. And for the ultimate LV VIPs, there’s the “exceptional edition” Timbs—limited to just 50 pairs, featuring 18-karat gold hardware, a custom lug sole, Italian calfskin leather uppers, and an eye-watering price tag of over $80,000.
So, what makes these boots worth the splurge? We did a side-by-side comparison with a classic pair of Timberlands to find out.
The Upper
The most obvious difference is the upper. The LV boots are embossed with the iconic Louis Vuitton monogram print. Up close, it’s a clear distinction, but from afar, you might not even notice. For some, that subtlety is perfection—why flaunt it? But if you’re dropping $2,850, you might want that monogram to scream luxury.
The quality of the nubuck on the LV pair is a noticeable upgrade—softer to the touch and with a slightly lighter wheat shade than the OG Timbs. This consistency is likely due to the fact that they’re made in Italy, unlike Timberlands, which are produced in various countries like the US, Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and China.
Importantly, the LV boots don’t skimp on durability. They feature seam-sealed construction, an insulated liner, and are waterproof. So, while you might not take them on a rugged hike, it’s good to know they can handle it.
Tongue and Laces
One of the best features is the tongue. It boasts Timberland’s signature tree logo and a subtle “Louis Vuitton Paris” wordmark on the outer tongue. The inner tongue, visible when worn loose with the tongue folded over, is stamped with the LV monogram, a much more pronounced detail that adds to the luxury feel.
The LV Timbs also come with thicker, round laces. They might be a bit more durable, but it’s a minor tweak in the grand scheme.
Collar
Until you see them side-by-side, you might not think much about the leather collars on Timberland boots. The LV collar has a bit more sheen and is more supple, but it’s not a drastic difference.
Hardware and Sole
The LV pair features seven gold metal eyelets etched with “Louis Vuitton,” a subtle yet classy touch. The hexagonal rings are thicker to fit the lettering, adding to the boot’s premium feel.
A major highlight is the sole. Unlike standard Timberlands, the LV pair has Louis Vuitton branding on the bottom that will imprint the LV logo into dirt and snow as you walk. It’s a luxurious detail that ensures even your footprint makes a statement..
Hang Tag
Timberlands usually come with a nubuck hang tag stamped with the brand’s logo. LV’s version is a more elevated, luggage tag-inspired piece with an adjustable gold buckle and cream contrast stitching. It’s a nice touch, even if you’ll probably remove it before wearing the boots.
Final Verdict
While not everyone will justify dropping $2,850 on work boots, there’s a noticeable quality upgrade in the LV Timbs compared to the $200 pair from the mall. The differences may not be monumental, but they’re significant enough for luxury aficionados.
If you do decide to splurge, wear them like any other pair of boots. Don’t be afraid to scuff them up. After all, if you’re spending that much, you might as well enjoy them!
These LV Timbs are another piece of history from Pharrell’s tenure with Louis Vuitton. Whether you wear them or store them away, you’ll be glad you have them.
